Google Maps continues its quest to make road trips amazing
The most annoying task when you’re on a road trip is finding a restaurant without messing up your directions. You have to go into your maps app, search for a place to eat, and completely change your destination, all without knowing how much that bite of burrito will actually take you off your ultimate goal. Last fall, Google Maps gave us “Add a Pit Stop” to the Android version of Maps, but left us sad poor iPhone users in the dust to hitchhike.
Looks like we aren’t stranded on the side of the road any longer. Now Android and iPhone users alike will be able to navigate to the cool local diner or gas station on their summer road trip without getting totally confused. The updated version is available pretty much everywhere, across 100 countries worldwide.

Test out this exciting new feature on your lunch break by making a little coffee stop on the way back to the office. While in navigation mode, you’ll see a little search magnifying glass. Google will ask you to choose between gas stations, coffee shops, restaurants, and grocery stores, but if you are looking for something in particular, you can either use voice command (safety first, people) or just type it in.
Google also makes it super easy to add or remove the stops. Finally, a user interface that doesn’t feel totally clunky. This is all on top of some great recent additions to the Google Maps app, including Driving Mode, Offline Access, and download from desktop to phone.
Personally, I can’t wait for my next road trip. Where will you be going?
